Word Inspired-Abstract Sculpture
Grades 9-12

Students created an abstract sculpture inspired by the words "movement", "balance", "lightness" and "rhythm". An introductory brainstorming technique was used to come up with ideas for each word and ways to interpret them in clay. The lists were displayed as a reminder during each class period for reference. The lesson included sketch exploration of their ideas before construction began and students were required to self-assess through a personal written explanation of their thought process and how they addressed the requirements of the lesson.
